Your Dress...
Choosing a wedding dress should be an exciting and enjoyable journey. When you come to our studio in central London, you may already have a fully-formed idea of your dream dress; or, you may have no preconceptions and wish to explore the many and varied options. We are happy to work with you and design a bespoke wedding dress. Alternatively, you may prefer a wedding dress from our made-to-measure bridal wear collection. The choice is yours. Once you have settled on a bridal design and we have completed our sketches, we will take your measurements. We will then make a "toile" (a dress made from cotton calico or a fabric similar to the one we use for your wedding dress) for the first fitting.
We will only begin making the actual wedding dress when the "toile" fits perfectly and we have determined all important lines (e.g. neckline etc). It is advisable at this stage to buy your shoes.
Special note: A "made-to-measure" wedding dress should not be confused with a "made-to-measurements" dress. The latter is a service commonly encountered in bridal wear shops, whereby a sales assistant will take your measurements and order a dress from the manufacturer in the "closest standard size". The manufacturer essentially supplies a "ready-made" dress which is then altered around the bust, waist and hips. There is no "toile" fitting and the result is an approximate fit at best.
Bespoke service
Many brides opt for a wedding dress from our current bridal wear collection. Occasionally, brides like to give their dress an individual twist - for example, by varying the colour, or choice of fabric and accessories. This may increase or - in some cases - reduce the cost of the dress.
Should you wish to bring your own dream dress to life, you should discuss your bridal design ideas with Melanie or one of her assistants before or at your first appointment. Ideally, you should bring along your sketches or anything else that has inspired you. Please understand, however, that under no circumstances will we copy any dresses from other designers.
We will be happy to source fabric samples and lace for your wedding dress and make a sketch of your bridal design. Once we understand the picture you have in mind, we will start with a "toile". As this procedure is much more time-consuming, it may also be more expensive.
Bespoke wedding dresses range from £1200 to £2,800.
Dresses from our collection range from £900 to £2500.
Please also check our Special Offers and let us know whether you would like us to include you on the distribution list for our newsletter.
The price of a bespoke wedding dress is dependent upon several variables: the style and construction of the dress, the fabrics, the labour, and the degree of customisation. For example, if you want your dress partially embroidered, this will cost more. Certain materials such as beaded fabrics are also more difficult to handle and, correspondingly, more time and attention will be needed to make the dress. If you tell us (honestly) what your budget is, we promise that we will try to find a solution to match it.
Timing
Preferably, you should allow a lead time of 4-6 months for your wedding dress. This will afford us ample time for the fittings and to source the right materials; it also ensures that you are not rushed when choosing the shoes and jewellery to complement your dress. And, ultimately, it alleviates some of the wedding stress when you know that the dress has been taken care of!
Off course, for all sorts of reasons, you may need a wedding dress much sooner and can't wait 4-6 months. Don't panic! If you talk to us, we will see what we can do and try our best to accommodate you.
We are at your disposal, so don't hesitate to ask any questions.
